As a result of social media, people in general now have the freedom to express their opinions on public platforms. The opinions can often be unethical and result in more controversy. This freedom of expression can be positive, but is found to be more negative as people take this freedom and share opinions that are both harmful and hurtful. This is why it is important to implement regulation on platforms, strategically. This also goes with the platforms having strong values and mission statements in which they act out within their platforms.
With regulation, I think it is important to implement specific regulations such as hate speech, and other things that are not helpful at all. With regulations, it is difficult to draw the line for some people between what is truly hateful, and what is just against another person’s opinion. This is why these platforms should have written values that are shared across the platform. With this value and mission statement, users of the platforms are already aware of the restrictions that would be present. These platforms should stick to their statements whether or not the public agrees with it. This would also create a more consistent environment online.
Overall, platforms have the option to regulate what they want. I do not think it is fair for regulations against conservative groups in general, but it goes both ways. If a platform has a regulation against a certain group of people, I don’t see why anyone would want to use that platform anyway, as that is discriminatory. Discrimination in any aspect is hateful. Christ tells us in Galatians that we, as people, are all equal. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians, ch. 3, v. 28). We are all made equal. And one, in the eyes of Christ Jesus.
